	<strong><span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="font-size:24px;"><a href="http://beeafrican.com/bishoprswchea.htm">Lectured By Columnist Bishop R.S.W. Chea, Th.D.</a></span></span></strong></div>
<div>
	<hr />
	<p>
		<strong>In light of the current destruction of private and public properties, this problem should be the concern of every Liberian beyond politics and party lines. &nbsp;In light of development, we are already way underdeveloped, and how much more undeveloped can we get? &nbsp;All these burning down of media outlets, buildings and government vehicles are only setting us back economically, socially, and psychologically. &nbsp;This is part of the reason we are where we are. &nbsp;We have many issues inLiberia and they all result for the absence of nationalism, but on top of the list are three major problems, namely corruption, ignorance and illiteracy. &nbsp;However, I will only address ignorance and illiteracy very briefly and continue on the issue of our non-nationalistic attitude and behavior. &nbsp;Note that the two (ignorance and illiteracy) are not synonymous, but distinct, yet they compliment each other. &nbsp;These are very big problems with many side effects including poverty and unemployment; and if not corrected, no matter what development we may achieve, it will be devalued and eventually destroyed. &nbsp; &nbsp;</strong></p>
	<div>
		&nbsp;</div>
	<div>
		People cannot be blamed if they do not know any better, but destruction! &nbsp;It is the responsibility of the government to effectively empowered those who know better to effectively deprogram and reprogram - educate (teach, train, and empower) those in this category within the population. &nbsp;Until the minds of those within this category be reprogrammed to think rationally and act with civility, we cannot really enjoy true development, as development must also take place in the mind! &nbsp;Top priority then must be given to the education and training of our people who fall in this category; and in our (Liberia&#39;s) case the rate is higher than high! &nbsp;It is not a CDC or a UP problem, it is Liberia&#39;s problem. &nbsp;Yet it is a problem that must be fixed by a sitting government; and in this case the UP led government. &nbsp;This problem has lingered since the destruction of properties immediately after the military coup of April 12, 1980 (and perhaps even beyond that if we were to include April 14, 1979 riot.). &nbsp;Ignoring this problem or looking at it passively as if it were not a serious matter is very detrimental to our future as a nation!</div>
	<div>
		&nbsp;</div>
	<div>
		The distructive action by the population meeting the profile of those in this category will continue until taken seriously and recognized as a cancerous destroying cell to progressive development in our collective body as a nation. &nbsp;Unless strategic measures are put in place or strategic programs are instituted by the government to purposefully and directly combat this problem socially and psychologically, it will indeed be a perpetual one. &nbsp;While this is a serious problem, it is yet one that can be cured, provided that sincere interest is displayed by the proper government agencies, but this is never the case. &nbsp;Liberia is not really a poor country, it is only people in charge who make it poor. &nbsp;Proper government funding can be allocated to deal with this problem, and it is something that must be embeded in the general fabric of the nation. &nbsp;The problem persist because of another problem we have, and which is non-nationalistic attitude; simply put: no one really cares about the nation, except to enrich themselves of her wealth!</div>
	<div>
		&nbsp;</div>
	<div>
		Until this problem is fixed, we will be more fascinated with destruction than real development. &nbsp;Until the population within this category is reprogrammed to always maintain their sanity and civility, and to reason as rational citizens in the 21st century, we will always have seasons of setback as a nation. &nbsp;Those in this category will never fail to seize the opportunity to act out their fascination with destruction when such opportunities make themselves available. &nbsp;This was precisely the case in the recent violence and destruction that occured during the protest by CDC on the eve of the election run-off in the wake of their boycott of the conclusion of the electoral process scheduled for november 8, 2011. &nbsp;When the problem is fixed, we can rest assure that whatever development we achieve will be maintained for generations to come, and elements of poverty will be significantly reduced if not completely eradicated! &nbsp;Yet it takes nationalistic minds to make this a reality! &nbsp;</div>
	<div>
		&nbsp;</div>
	<div>
		While hatred is another serious problem we have, it is yet a by-product of our non-nationalistic attitude and behavior. &nbsp;Our problem with hatred is two-fold, and precisely self-hatred and hatred of others. &nbsp;If one does not love himself in a nationalistic sense, how can he love others in the same sense? &nbsp;Mama Libreia is certainly in desperate need of patriotic and nationalistic citizens and it is time we make her proud in this regard! &nbsp;Every well-meaning Liberian must think positively in light of how he can contribute to the development of the nation in any capacity in the spirit of true nationalism. &nbsp;Again, Liberia is not a poor nation, she has only been robbed by her own children! &nbsp;While she is not really poor, yet it is only her own citizens who have brought her to her knees; and somehow attempting to hold her captive by endless poverty! &nbsp;In the absence of nationalistic spirit, the nation bleeds and there is no real end to destruction in sight; and in the case of Liberia, her wound appears to be perpetual. &nbsp;Yet in the presence of nationalistic spirit, the nation is strengthened to succeed; destruction turns into construction and consistent development is achieved; and it is also seen and felt by every citizen, for they will be truly impacted.&nbsp;</div>
	<div>
		&nbsp;</div>
	<div>
		Finally in the presence of nationalistic spirit, the fascination with destruction will be a thing of of the past. &nbsp;Collectively endeavoring to effectively deprogram and reprogram the population that needs proper or re-education (mainly civil education) in this regard, with the spearheading heading of the government by allocating proper funding towards this, they will be effectively empowered to respond to a national call in the spirit of nationalism to think rationally and act with civility. &nbsp;Remaining consistent on this track, Liberia shall rise to greatness once again in due season! &nbsp;Thanks for reading and for your time! &nbsp;Have a lovely evening and many blessings!</div>

<div>
	I responded to a gentleman who asked the question: &quot;Why did he allow himself to be treated that way?&quot; and added &quot;so sad[!]&quot;. &nbsp;This question was made in light of the fallen Libyan leader Muammer Gaddafi, a man who was once considered very powerful in Africa. &nbsp;My response, which inspired the writing of this article, was this:</div>
<div>
	&nbsp;</div>
<div>
	&quot;That is a very good question - simple and straight forward! &nbsp;The question applies to those in the time past and those in the near and distance future - and to include would be leaders. &nbsp;Power is like honey in the mouth of an African leader. &nbsp;They appear to be under a delusional spell when they are in power; that eventually lead them to a great fall, refusing to learn from the past mistakes of former leaders. &nbsp;For some it is only destiny in light of the common law of nature, and the illusion of invincibility seems to replace common sense in light of their actions of greed, selfishness, tyranny, and murderous tendencies.&quot; (Chea:2011)</div>
<div>
	&nbsp;</div>
<div>
	It is only common sense that if you kill others for the sake of power, others will kill you for the sake of power as well. &nbsp;And as you have killed

	others, given or stolen power, and enriched yourself overnight, it is only wisdom to get out of the way in time that you may able to reach a full old age, die by natural cause related to age, and leave your stolen wealth for your family to enjoy . &nbsp;It is very simple, yet the temptation to hold on to power is much stronger coupled with the delusion of invincibility. &nbsp;In the end they lose it all, dying without honor and taking their rightful place among dead tyrants. &nbsp;&quot;Oh, how the mighty heroes have fallen! Stripped of their weapons, they lie dead.&quot; (1 Sam. 1:27 NLT)&nbsp;</div>
<div>
	&nbsp;</div>
<div>
	However, leaders carrying on in a power-drunk and delusional manner, even knowing that the chances are that they may also end up like others they have killed for power, they risk everything until it is too late and they die in shame and dishonor while attempting to hold on to power. &nbsp;In this light, Charles Taylor was wise by getting out when he knew it was time; and violating his own conscience then would have meant dying with dishonor and a death of a common criminal as in the case of the once-mighty &nbsp;Gaddafi, godfather of rebel movements in Africa, and who should be credited for fostering terrorism in Africa. &nbsp;(Though in regard to terrorism in Africa, I do not think the UN and others are any better.) &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;</div>
<div>
	&nbsp;</div>
<div>
	It is said in the Kru language that &quot;chur yeh nana sehn kpon&quot;, which means: &quot;the moon can walk or move about, but daylight will catch up with it&quot;. &nbsp;A longer version reads: &quot;chur yeh na na kley manton klyee, senh muor kpon kaor&quot;, which means: &quot;the moon can walk or move about all night long, but daylight will still catch up with it&quot;. &nbsp;A biblical reference simply put, &quot;a man shall reap what he sows&quot; (Gal. 6:7). &nbsp;A common law of nature is that a man must also be enriched as he has enriched others; enslaved as he has also enslaved others; or be destroyed as he has also destroyed others.&nbsp;</div>
<div>
	&nbsp;</div>
<div>
	The reality of this cannot be changed, and no matter how long it takes for one to come to terms with the pending consequences of his actions, this still cannot be avoided. &nbsp;By the biblical law stated above, which is also a common law of nature, a man must also benefit from the &quot;good work&quot; he has performed in this life. &nbsp;In this light, Matthew 26:52, which reads &quot;...Those who use the sword will die by the sword&quot; (NLT) is also in harmony with Galatians 6:7, which reads &quot;Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap&quot; (NASB). &nbsp;Time is the only determining factor to one actually receiving the due reward for his actions.</div>
<div>
	&nbsp;</div>
<div>
	No matter how powerful one may be or think he is, and how invincible he may think he is, his sins remain upon his head and time again is the determining factor of his impending doom as a result of his evil needs. &nbsp;In time one will yet reap the benefit of his own actions, good or bad. &nbsp;Those who kill others for power will also be kill likewise, and it is not a matter of if, but a matter of when, e.g. Nicolae Ceausescu (Romania), Samuel Doe (Liberia), Muammar Gaddafi (Libya), etc. &nbsp;Some may escape or appear to escape payment for their deeds under this direct law of nature, but only for a temporary season, for a latter day is yet coming. &nbsp;Yet others may escape only to be subject to the same or another form of natural law, e.g. Edi Ami (Uganda), Charles Taylor (Liberia), Hosni Mubarak (Egypt), Prince Johnson (Liberia), Ellen John-Sirleaf (Liberia), etc.&nbsp;</div>
<div>
	&nbsp;</div>
<div>
	Leaders must listen to the voice of wisdom within and without their own intellect, or be dead in due season in dishonor. &nbsp;&quot;Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisers.&quot; (Prov. 11:14 NLT) &nbsp; Advisors to African leaders must be truthful; they must be sincere and not self-seeking; and most of all, they must be wise themselves. &nbsp;&quot;...Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit?&quot; (Luk. 6:39 NIV) &nbsp;Hypocrites are only those who out of greed and selfishness do not lovingly confront their friends with the truth out of sincere concern; and when it is all over, in their circle of deception they repeat the same with others. &nbsp;Self-seeking hypocrites make a career out of such &quot;distinguishing traits of deception!&quot;&nbsp;</div>
<div>
	&nbsp;</div>
<div>
	<strong>CONCLUSION:</strong></div>
<div>
	In conclusion, Africa remains unchanged in light of corrupt, power-drunk, tyrannical and delusional leaders; yet the response of national citizens have changed to reflect a new day and time; and it is also an era in which the response to such regimes have changed in the international community as well, regardless of their selfish interest. &nbsp;Leaders meeting the profile herein must now change their methods and policies and learn to listen to their citizens, as they are the very ones who will rejoice over the downfall such leaders. &nbsp;The resistance of such leaders to a new day as a result of pride and ego may cost them very dearly in the end. &nbsp;&quot;Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.&quot; (Prov. 16:18 ESV) &nbsp;Thank you for reading and for your time! &nbsp;Have a lovely day and many blessings!</div>
