Viviane N'Dour, African Diva and Fulani Queen of senegal music inspired by Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody" she thought it was Americans copying Senegalese music. Her remake, "Goor Fit," featured on Entre Nous/Between Us/Ci Sunu Biir, proved to be one of her most memorable and popular songs, so naturally there had to be still another version, "Am Fit," from 2003's Fii Ak Fee (Jololi). I've always liked Aaliyah's original, but Viviane's versions take the song to transcendent new levels.
Her music combines traditional Senegalese mbalax music with elements of U.S. rap and R&B. She released her first album in 1999 and formed a group called Le Jolof Band in 2001. Most of her songs are in either English or Wolof though a few are in French, the official language of Senegal. She is Muslim.
Viviane is a very glamorous rising singing star from Senegal. She uses a unique blend of contemporary Senegalese mbalax, hip-hop and R & B.
Viviane was born near a cultural town on the Atlantic coast of Senegal. From an early age she loved music and took the chance to sing with bands at the hotels in the local resort. Her big break came in 1993 when she joined the renowned Super Etoile, led by Youssou N'Dour, as a backing vocalist. This gave her the opportunity to travel the world with Youssou, especially accompanying him on the big hit Seven Seconds.
Viviane is married to Boubacar, Youssou's brother and they all work very closely together in the music business in the Xippi studios in Dakar.
