Nigeria celebrate Victor Obinna's goal

Nigeria defeated a severely depleted Algerian side 1-0 to claim third place at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Striker Victor Obinna's brave 54th minute effort sealed the victory for the Super Eagles in Benguela.

But Nigeria should have won by a wider margin as they fluffed several good scoring chances.

Kalu Uche should have put his side in the lead just before the break but missed from six yards, while Lamine Zemmomouche saved Obinna's strike.

Victory for the Super Eagles ensured that they picked up their fourth bronze medal in the last five...Read More

Algeria 0-4 Egypt

Egypt strolled through to their third successive Africa Cup of Nations final, overcoming Algeria 4-0, with their great rivals finishing with eight men.

Hosni Abd Rabou put Egypt ahead from the spot, after Algeria's Rafik Halliche was sent-off for the foul.

Mohamed Zidan doubled the lead, before Mohamed Abdelshafi made it three and Mohamed Gedo completed the rout.

Algeria totally lost their discipline and saw Nadir Belhadj and keeper Fawzi Chaouchi also dismissed late on.

The game more than lived up to its billing as a fiery encounter with plenty of incident throughout....Read More

It took 120 minutes and five penalties for Nigeria to qualify for the Semi finals at the expense of a Zambian team that has itself to blame for not ending it at regulation time.

With no goals to show for the match at the end of extra time, the Nigerians converted their five penalties while Nyirenda Nyirenda had his attempt, the fourth Zambian kick, saved by Vincent Enyeama in the Nigerian goal.

Egypt progressed to the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals by beating Cameroon after extra-time.

Egyptian captain Ahmed Hassan made all the headlines, scoring twice and providing Cameroon's only goal.

Cameroon took an early lead when Hassan headed in a corner for an own goal, before he levelled from distance.

Mohamed Gedo punished Geremi's poor back-pass to put Egypt in front before Hassan was awarded their third, despite his free-kick not crossing the line.

The 34-year-old skipper was making his 170th appearance for the Pharoahs - an African record - and was at the...Read More

Ghana celebrate their victory over host nation Angola

Hosts Angola crashed out of the Africa Cup of Nations in frustrating fashion as Ghana edged their quarter-final tie.

Asamoah Gyan got the only goal of the game in Luanda with 16 minutes played.

The Rennes forward pounced on a fine ball from Kwadwo Asamoah and slotted in calmly from the right-hand side of the penalty area for the Black Stars.

Angola were left to rue several missed opportunities, with Palancas Negras striker Manucho wasting a number of good chances to score.
